USA TODAY: Are people canceling Amazon Prime following Prime Day?

As Amazon’s Prime Day sales were heating up and pulling record numbers, search traffic and social media posts were up for terms like “boycott Amazon” and “cancel Prime.”

Search-intelligence firm Captify found that searches for “Canceling Amazon Prime” were 18 times higher Monday as they were on Sunday. Results were similar on the second day of the 48-hour Prime Day, too, the firm found.

“If Amazon is hoping to use Prime Day as a way to sign up and retain new Prime Members, they might need to rethink their retention plan,” said Anand Siddiqui, Captify global vice president of insight and analytics, in a statement shared with USA TODAY. “According to search, consumers are signing up for Prime, getting their deals and then canceling membership shortly after.”
